Unit Overview

This unit develops pupils’ fundamental athletic skills through a range of running, jumping and throwing activities.

  • Develops sprinting, endurance running and relay skills
  • Introduces different jumping techniques for distance and height
  • Develops throwing skills using a range of equipment
  • Encourages pupils to improve performance through practice and effort
  • Introduces measuring, recording and comparing performances
  • Promotes fair competition, teamwork and personal challenge

Unit Outcomes

By the end of this unit, pupils will be able to:

  • Run at different speeds over short and longer distances
  • Perform a range of jumping actions for distance and height
  • Throw a variety of objects with control and accuracy
  • Improve performance through practice and effort
  • Measure, record and compare results
  • Demonstrate positive attitudes towards competition and personal challenge
