Years 3–4 | Unit Overview

Unit Overview

This unit introduces pupils to the key skills and principles of net and wall games through simple, progressive activities.

  • Develops fundamental striking and sending skills using hands or equipment
  • Introduces returning an object over a net or towards a wall with control
  • Encourages movement, positioning and readiness during rallies
  • Develops hand-eye coordination and control in game situations
  • Introduces simple rules, scoring and game structures
  • Prepares pupils for sports such as tennis, badminton, volleyball

Unit Outcomes

By the end of this unit, pupils will be able to:

  • Send an object over a net or towards a wall with control
  • Receive and return an object using appropriate hand or racket skills
  • Move into position to play a shot during a rally
  • Sustain simple rallies with a partner
  • Follow basic rules and keep score in simple games
  • Show cooperation, fairness and respect for others
