Unit Overview

This unit builds on pupils’ prior learning by developing greater skill consistency, tactical awareness and decision-making in striking and fielding games.

  • Refines striking skills to hit into space with accuracy and power
  • Develops effective throwing, catching and fielding techniques under pressure
  • Applies tactical understanding when batting and fielding, including placement and teamwork
  • Introduces game roles, strategies and simple fielding formations
  • Encourages decision-making to maximise scoring opportunities and prevent runs
  • Prepares pupils for more formal versions of sports such as cricket, rounders and baseball

Unit Outcomes

By the end of this unit, pupils will be able to:

  • Strike a ball accurately and with power into space
  • Throw, catch and field with speed, accuracy and control
  • Apply tactics when batting and fielding, such as placement and teamwork
  • Make effective decisions in game situations to score runs or prevent scoring
  • Understand and perform different roles within striking and fielding games
  • Follow rules, keep score and demonstrate sportsmanship and fair play
