Unit Overview
- Develops core invasion game skills including passing, receiving, shooting and defending
- Introduces attacking and defending principles such as space, teamwork and positioning
- Encourages decision-making in game-like situations
- Builds coordination, agility and ball control using feet and/or hands
- Promotes communication, cooperation and fair play
- Prepares pupils for sports such as football, netball, hockey and basketball
Unit Outcomes
By the end of this unit, pupils will be able to:
- Pass and receive a ball with control using hands and/or feet
- Move into space to support teammates when attacking
- Defend effectively by marking, intercepting or blocking
- Apply simple attacking and defending principles in small-sided games
- Make basic decisions about when to pass, move or shoot
- Follow rules, play fairly and work cooperatively as part of a team
