Years 3–4 | Unit Overview

Unit Overview

  • Develops core invasion game skills including passing, receiving, shooting and defending
  • Introduces attacking and defending principles such as space, teamwork and positioning
  • Encourages decision-making in game-like situations
  • Builds coordination, agility and ball control using feet and/or hands
  • Promotes communication, cooperation and fair play
  • Prepares pupils for sports such as football, netball, hockey and basketball

Unit Outcomes

By the end of this unit, pupils will be able to:

  • Pass and receive a ball with control using hands and/or feet
  • Move into space to support teammates when attacking
  • Defend effectively by marking, intercepting or blocking
  • Apply simple attacking and defending principles in small-sided games
  • Make basic decisions about when to pass, move or shoot
  • Follow rules, play fairly and work cooperatively as part of a team
