Unit Overview
This unit introduces pupils to the key skills and concepts of striking and fielding games through simple, inclusive activities.
- Develops basic striking skills using hands or equipment
- Introduces throwing, catching and fielding techniques
- Encourages accuracy, control and teamwork in game situations
- Introduces simple game rules, scoring and roles
- Develops spatial awareness and decision-making when batting and fielding
- Prepares pupils for sports such as cricket, rounders
Unit Outcomes
By the end of this unit, pupils will be able to:
- Strike a ball using hands or equipment with control
- Throw and catch accurately when fielding
- Work as part of a team to field and retrieve a ball
- Understand and apply basic game rules and roles
- Make simple decisions when batting and fielding
- Demonstrate fair play, cooperation and respect for others
