Unit Overview

This unit develops pupils’ ability to apply skills, tactics and strategies within competitive invasion games.

  • Refines passing, receiving, shooting and defending under pressure
  • Applies attacking and defending principles effectively in game situations
  • Develops tactical awareness, including creating space and maintaining possession
  • Encourages decision-making, teamwork and communication in larger-sided games
  • Introduces simple strategies, roles and positions within teams
  • Prepares pupils for competitive, sport-specific games such as basketball, netball, football and hockey

Unit Outcomes

By the end of this unit, pupils will be able to:

  • Execute accurate passes, shots and defensive actions under pressure
  • Apply attacking and defending principles effectively in competitive game situations
  • Create and use space to maintain possession and build attacks
  • Make appropriate decisions when to pass, move, shoot or defend
  • Understand and apply basic tactics, roles and positions within a team
  • Demonstrate teamwork, communication and fair play during games
